Phenomenal preacher.
These look good. And it seems that he will be using the same passage in James to preach on "the tongue" at the Desiring God conference next fall. Do you plan to be there?
Justin,
Thanks for gathering these. I have added a lot of Ferguson's sermons that he preached at Park Cities in 2005, at the Westminster Confession Conference 2003, at a family conference at Mitchell Road PCA in Greenville, SC, and at Banner of Truth. You can find these at www.feedingonchrist.blogspot.com. Thanks again.
You can also visit http://www.firstprescolumbia.org/Media/Audio/audio.asp to download the messages in mp3. That is more convenient, perhaps.
I’m really enjoying this series of sermons! Now you’re talking about James... In Ferguson’s sermon about 2:14-26 he has the same interpretation that Packer, Sproul, Grudem, Calvin, Berkhof, etc. He says James uses the word justification with a different meaning than Paul. While Paul meant declared rightousness, James means proven to be rightousness.
But for example this interpretation differs from the one given by Gathercole, Piper, Schreiner, etc.
I understand the explanation given by Ferguson & co., but I really don’t get the explanation given by the other group.
Excuse my english, and... can you help me on that point? What’s your explanation for the verse 24?
I recently found these sermon on James from Dr. Pipa.
These sermons were preached in 1985. Dr. Pipa (now) is president of Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
