Buckley at His Desk

As one who struggles (or rather, fails) to keep a clean desk, I couldn't help but smile tonight at this picture of Buckley in his office:

BTW, to see Buckley being interview by Charlie Rose, here is an hour-long show with highlights throughout the years:

Oh wow.
I'm not good at keeping a clean desk either, but I sure want to keep it clean, and this photo inspires me to work harder at it! ;-)
what desk?
Looks like somebody needed a little 'Getting Things Done'...
I didn't even see him at first.
Ditto to Ray.
I found this picture elsewhere yesterday, and saved it as a wallpaper on my notebook. Inspirational, in terms of telling me work, work work, and write!
Ever see the little sign that says, "A Clean Desk is A Sign of a Sick Mind". :-)
And I would venture that Buckley knew where everything was so that at a moment's notice he could lay his hands on what he needed.
I read that he died at this desk. I wonder if that means anything.
Say, isn't that a copy of Desiring God on the shelf? (Don't look, I'm just kidding.) And what is the dog doing? And why did Buckley need glad bags and Lysol spray in his office? Talk about a man consumed....

What a wonderful picture and I loved the interview.
I have an old tape of a debate that had Buckley as the moderator. The debate was titled: "The Proof for the Existence of God" and it was between William Lane Craig and Dr. Peter Atkins. Buckley was a complete hoot as moderator. After introducing Craig he introduced Atkins by saying "and now on the side of the devil we have Dr. Peter Atkins."
I read an interview years ago (don't have the faintest clue about the source anymore) where he was asked about memorable letters he had received. He mentioned two in particular, not so much for their content as for how they were addressed -- the first this way:
Mr. William F. Buckley
New York City
and the second this way:
To the Insufferable Mr. Buckley
i use a similar piling system.
Well, my gut reaction ... as I look around my home office/study is to think, "That's not so bad. I'm looking at worse."
His doesn't have toddlers toys stacked on top of volume 6 of Owen's Works or a 30-30 and a 12 gauge awaiting cleaning from the men's retreat a few weeks ago.
So ... I'm tempted to say, "See, I'm like William F. Buckley, Jr. I'm not a slob. I'm an intellectual."
But, to do so would open me up to the following inevitable comment:
"Pastor, I knew William F. Buckley, Jr. William F. Buckley, Jr. was a friend of mine. You're no William F. Buckley, Jr."
