Alan Greenspan, a very respected voice on economic matters, had much to say the other day about reforming the Federal Tax Code. He spoke favorably about the idea of a consumption tax, saying: "...a consumption tax would be best from the perspective of promoting economic growth."
A voice of reason, Greenspan stated, "A simpler tax code would reduce the considerable resources devoted to complying with current tax laws, and the freed up resources could be used for more productive purposes."
The democratic leadership was not impressed: "I think he's one of the biggest political hacks we have in Washington" (Harry Reid, Senator Minority Leader).
