Here's the new promo video for the Desiring God National Conference, which will be in the fall of 2006.
Between Two Worlds: A Mix of Theology, Philosophy, Politics, and Culture

Thanks for posting the trailer. I enjoyed it
I think Mark Driscoll brings up a great point.
Perhaps the "Together for the Gospel Conference" should have had some strippers. I'm sure JMac and Molher would have loved them.
I'm hoping that you will invite several strippers to "Chist and the Postmodern World."
Ok...Back to the real world. I think Mark's comments, while true, were also very distasteful, shows his poor judgement, and once again demonstrates his lack of discernment.
Between calling Robert Schuler a man of God, telling us that DOG the bounty hunter is a great role model, and that we need to reach out to more strippers, it seems like Mark might have been the best choice to have at the conference.
Help me understand more why having a desire to know and reach out to strippers, is distasteful, shows poor judgment and demonstartes a lack of discernment. I think if you are going to level that critique it might be helpful to demonstate biblically that what you are saying about Mark is true. Just curious. Thanks.
I would have to agree with Vitamin Z. Mark has not advocated stripping, but he say they need Jesus, why is that a distasteful thing to say? I think not sharing Jesus with strippers is what would be distasteful. Plus it is manipulative to imply that Driscoll is saying there should be strippers at DG conference. Tim it might be wise to listen and read a bit more carefully (some of your critiques of his blog posts are distortions also) before you question his character.
Re: reaching out to strippers - it's been done:

(I haven't watched the video yet - maybe Mark mentions that ministry in there...)
Rats, the URL got chopped. Here is the story
"I don't try to change their life," she said of the women she seeks out at strip clubs. "I just want them to have a relationship with God."
JD Girls does not urge strippers to leave the sex industry.
Hmm...Just a nice little relationship with God. No need to change. Sounds like the gospel to me. I'm going to stop all this mortification of sin. It's way to hard.
I just wanna love Jesus. I think I'll head to the strip club...See you guys later.
Focusing on the original point of the first post (driscoll and the strippers), tim is right.
Christians should not be seeking out those in really bad sin, like stripping (I feel naughty just writing that word), but those in not-so-bad sin, like, hmm, greedy day trading. Let's have a ministry for them.
Okay back to the real world, TIm seems to have something against Driscoll, whose remark in the video was not actually distatsteful, but condemning. That may be where it hit a nerve.
At the very least, it may have just been hyperbolic (although I don't think it was), like Luther and that whole 'sin boldly' thing.
Put simply, if the Gospel is not for strippers, then who is it for?
Well said Vitamin Z ...
Mark 2:17
On hearing this, Jesus said to them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners."
I think it is a sad thing when Believers choose to use sarcasm and ridicule as the means to support their own position and criticize someone else's. There's a place for irony, but I'm not certain everything in these comments is primarly for the purpose of advancing the truth
You could say it is inherent to the blogging or Net cultures, but we are still accountable for every word, yes?
I see this going both ways here - so please no "he started it" responses.
Interesting that in the wake of such a wonderful and (by all accounts) powerful gathering together of leaders, there seems to be an extra portion of backbiting and venom going on in some of the leading online forums lately.

And should that be any surprise, based upon those who are spewing the venom? Most (not all, mind you) are of the Emerging Church ilk or lean that direction. They probably took umbrage at the direct hit from virtually every Article of the T4G Statement. That Statement was an obvious arrow pointed directly at borderline (and direct) wacko pursuits of the EC and other liberal Christian elements. The truth hurts, and they're howling like a wounded wolf.
You may be right, Bill, but it looks like you missed soccerreformer's observation--I see this going both ways here - so please no "he started it" responses. "Spewing," "ilk," and "wacko" are hardly ways of winning your opponents. No group has a monopoly uncouth discourse here.
Peacably,
KP
