I strongly agree with the article. I "stumbled" across McDonald's coffee about the middle of last year and I will confirm that it tastes better than Starbuck's.
Personally, I'm a fan of Mr. Coffee. It's cheaper, just as flavorful, and beats having to wait in line at the drive through. I can even program him to have my coffee ready for me in the morning if I want to.
I haven't had McDonald's coffee much but I would certainly agree with the Starbucks overburnt assessment. I've avoided them for years for this reason, only 'settling' on a Starbuck's cup when the headache starts to set in.
I find this interesting, because I've had McD's coffee twice since they came out with their new line, and those were the only two times in my life that I've had a cup of coffee I didn't like. I've had watered down coffee with no additives that tasted better. I freakin' ate a coffee packet one time, and that tasted infinitely better than the nasty stuff from McD's. I must have the worst luck in the world, or the weirdest taste in the world...or both.
I've never cared much for Mickey D's coffee--and I actually liked it even LESS when they switched over to the new stuff they're using.
Always been a fan of Starbucks, though I must say that I visit the same 1-2 locations every week, and, since I'm a regular, they know exactly what I like. (And the folks at the Starbucks I go to are so friendly that they almost always give me free refills if they're not busy!)
Plus, I have better devotional times at Starbucks than almost anywhere else. No idea why; it just works out that way.
I like Starbucks coffee for the same reason I like Apple computers. They are both soooo cool! And I am committed to cool. After all image is everything. Oh wait...the emporer is calling, he has some clothes for me to try on...
You may be relieved to know that McDonalds uses Seattle's Best, which is owned and operated by Seattle Coffee Company AKA Starbucks. Let's all have a good night's rest. Sounds like the taste-testers got bamboozled, although another time and place might very likely present a different scenario. And maybe, just maybe, Starbuckian Coffee Intelligentsia ought to have a go at McDonalds coffee now and then.
This survey sounds like all the others you find in the news. You always wonder where in the world they find the participants, under a rock or in a shelter? Ever wonder who is funding surveys like this? Nobody has ever asked me one of these surveys, has anyone ever invited any of you for input? Personally, I like the stiff punch a cup of Starbuck's gives. As for McD's coffee, I'd sooner drink old dishwater.
McDonald's coffee is fairly good...sometimes. I think the biggest difference between the two is consistency.
Starbucks is very, very picky about the quality of their product. McDonald's is, well, McDonald's :).
In the mornings when I usually would get a coffee there, the turnover rate is enough to keep the coffee fairly fresh. However, go in there later in the day and it may be a bit like drinking swamp water or paint thinner.
Then, in terms of atmosphere, Starbucks unquestionably has McDonald's beat :).
"Starbucks vs McDonalds Coffee" El cafe save igual porq usan la misma marca y la misma calidad a comparasion de burger king que usa Dunkin' ellos usan las sobras de los granos por eso esq no save bien... se los digo porq yo trabaje en starbucks y Mcdonals. la diferencia esq starbucks se hace cafe cada 30 min y en mcsonalds asta que la jarra se acabe pero me gusta mas el del Mc donals. I love it

I refuse to believe it.
I've actually never had McDonalds' coffee (as far as I can recall), but I definitely agree with CR's finding that Starbucks' coffee is overburnt.

You know I would have to agree that the Mc D's cup might actually be better, but c'mon the two aren't even in the same universe as Peet's.
I wonder if they'll still have "Free Coffee Mondays" after this publicity.
It's a lie.
m. jay bennett is correct.

Does this mean that hanging out at McDonald's can now be considered "McMissional"?

This is why i try to stay above reproach and brew Peet's coffee. I pity you if you don't know about Peet's.
Christian....
Amen!(see post #5)
McDonalds: 1 blend/variety of coffee
Starbucks: At least 20
Exactly which Starbucks coffee do they claim that McDonalds' is "better" than? I place the "pure bunk" stamp on this "study".
