I feel like I could have substituted my name for Randy Alcorn's in that article. I'm as politically skeptical as they come, but find a strange confidence in the person of Huckabee...we'll see whether that proves correct or even relevant (i.e. if he wins the nomination)

lly this isn't an appeal to authority. Especially since Mr Alcorn hardly is one on this topic. He has written some great things - but that doesn't make him politically or economically astute.

That said, I did brush through his old article that he linked to and it was actually fairly good. I agreed with a lot of it, and in fact I find it prophetic in many ways.

Conservatism very much did become a false god of much of conservative Christianity. We wrap churches in the flag on veteran holidays and the fourth of July, singing songs of worship and praise to the state.

And many consider voting republican - good or bad - and supporting whatever candidate they put forward as a test of orthodoxy. Distasteful in the extreme.

Further, as I've said here before, regardless of my dislike for Hucakbee as a candidate - I am thrilled with the fact that more and more Christians are waking up to the fact that we don't have to swallow whatever garbage (aka Rudy) the republican establishment puts on our plate. I'm thrilled that so many are rejecting the 'vote for the electable candidate' baloney.

Obviously, I'd rather you all support Ron, but at least we're getting more and more Christians back on the track of actually thinking about what they want out of their leaders and not just checking the box marked R and considering it done. That's a huge step in the right direction.

All that said, it seems like Randy has confused some issues, issues that many others do. He appears to have forgotten that the command to care for the poor and the windows and the orphans was given to the Church, and to each of us as individual members. It was not given to the government. It is irresponsible to try to shirk that duty on to a government that will impoverish MORE people in its attempts to help, and then only enslave the people it purports to help rather than actually helping them.

Given his old 90s article reads like an endorsement of Ron Paul itself, I'll be looking forward to his comments on that later.
