Mark Taylor (Tyndale, no relation) and Al Hsu (IVP) both lament the current situation in Christians publishing with respecting to agents and royalty advances.

Very telling, yet I suspect that many already know as much by walking through a Christian bookstore.
One has to be realistic about sales, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this - I think that these authors should be named and shamed. As should those who get someone else to write their books and then put their own name on it.
And while I'm complaining - I wish ministers wouldnt just turn every set of sermons into a book - there are some really poor devotional commentaries out there from men who havent edited or rethought their work for publishing.

Maybe you can start a new movement -- away from the traditional advance. Either require the finished work before you agree on an advance or leave it entirely for a graduated royalty system (e.g., sell 5k, get .1%, sell 500k, get 10%). I like the second system better myself.
It would be hard, but if you could get even a couple of big Christian publishers to do it, the others would follow once these didn't have to "write off" any lemons.
