The Gospel and the Jena 6

Pastor Lance Lewis offers some reflections on questions to ask and things to think about in connection with the civil rights unrest in Louisiana. Here's the conclusion:
Finally brothers, what is our responsibility to navigate the rough rapids of race in a way that demonstrates our unity, promotes the gospel, honors Jesus Christ and helps our society through this contentious issue? Will we just stand by, take our respective sides and watch our society continue to stumble in the haze of hostility or will we stand out, speak humbly and live boldly by standing side by side demonstrating the gospel’s power to bring unity despite our differences.

Pastor Lewis is right on!! The issue of racism is alive and well in the Church, this country and in the hearts of people! I love how "Christians" like to accuse the Bill Clintons of the world for their sin but "good Christians" have their own garbage sitting in the middle of their own lives---hearts and actions filled with addictions to food, shopping, internet, blogging, sex, and yes racism. We (me the chief of sinners) need to be a broken people and learn to cover the back of our African American brothers and sisters when things like this happen and speak out loudly about these horrible things for the glory of Christ!
