From Mars Hill regarding a free download:
In 2000, MARS HILL AUDIO's Ken Myers talked with literary critic Alan Jacobs about Pullman’s trilogy and the ideas it advances. In that interview, Jacobs explained exactly how Pullman pursues his project of undermining Christian belief, as well as some of the other disturbing tendencies of these creative books. Originally presented on the MARS HILL AUDIO Journal, a longer version of that interview is offered in this issue of Audition.

Yes, this was an especially insightful interview.
Its been said that "mathematics is the language with which God has written the universe."
We know this is true because when we start to unravel any physical secret be it in the field of chemistry, biology, astronomy or any other study, we find there are exact mathematical rules that when isolated hold true as stable data to advance from.
Yet even so we find people are addicted to gambling and "Luck" (the false concept that some unseen force is hovering, dormant, nearby to guide the electrons into certain patterns in order to create certain outcomes in order to deliver to the gambler some desired result.

Books I’ve seen claim you can start making an easy living playing poker online or offline. If you think you can make an easy living from poker without the appropriate leverage, you’re only kidding yourself. Without leverage, your poker career is destined to spiral into a hole.

I read the Pullman trilogy last year. I also read "Dark Matter" by Tony Watkins, a book which provides an explanation of the themes in the books.
The philosophical ideas and scientific theories that underlie the book are very complicated and advanced. Frankly, a lot of Watkins' book went over my head, and I should have read it twice.
Children reading the books will be focused on following on the basic storyline and characters, which are very compelling. I think it is very unlikely that they will even suspect anti-Christian themes unless people start pointing this out. Unfortunately, some people create problems by making issues of things that are completely ignored by most children.
The third book, "The Amber Spyglass", is the point at which some of those themes really gell.
In my opinion, "The Golden Compass" is the most accessible book for children, and my personal favorite. I knew the movie would be a failure because the animal characters must be perfectly realized to pull off the story, and they clearly were botched in the movie.
"The Subtle Knife" does not have the same appeal, although it is a very good book. "The Amber Spyglass" is complicated enough that I would consider it a YA or adult book.
