Bush and Geldof

Bob Geldof, writing in Time Magazine:
I gave the President my book. He raised an eyebrow. "Who wrote this for ya, Geldof?" he said without looking up from the cover. Very dry. "Who will you get to read it for you, Mr. President?" I replied. No response.Read the whole thing. The Most Powerful Man in the World studied the front cover. Geldof in Africa — " 'The international best seller.' You write that bit yourself?"
"That's right. It's called marketing. Something you obviously have no clue about or else I wouldn't have to be here telling people your Africa story."
It is some story. And I have always wondered why it was never told properly to the American people, who were paying for it.

Hey Justin, thanks for posting this, but shouldn't it be "Bush and Geldof" instead of "Bush and Gedolf". With that spelling I can't help but think of a certain Lord of the Rings character...
It is interesting to me that Geldof is not able to see the stark differences between Africa and Iraq. For one, the former is a continent hosting numerous countries while the latter is a single country. In addition, America's relationship to Africa deals primarily with AIDS and hunger relief while it's relationship with Iraq involves having dealt and dealing with the threat of Islamic extremism and its past and potential threat to America. They are two completely different things. Yet, Geldof tries to equate them throughout the article as being on similar ground. In the end, at least Geldof is giving credit where credit is due in regards to Bush's policies having a positive effect on AIDS and hunger relief.
