Teaching about deacons has been long neglected. This is particularly troubling because the Apostles called the deacons to handle the church's wealth (e.g. distribution of food), so that they would be free to focus on the ministry of the Word and prayer. In light of Matthew 6:21, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also", it becomes clear that an entire church's attitude will be both shaped and reflected (chosen by the people) by the priorities of the deacons.
